Today is Thursday;) My favorite day of the week! Thursday = friends, fellowship and food! I can’t really ask for anything more. Today we talked a lot about the health of mothers and mothers-in-law which turned into our relationships with them. We have been praying for a couple of moms in our group and it was great to get updates and a nice reminder that our relationships with family are so so important.
Relationships with family can sometimes be difficult to maintain for one reason or another. Years can go by without talking to a particular family member. New generations are born and a lost connection with family will then impact new family members. Many times it is hard to even remember what caused the strain.
We learned today in Chapter 11 of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver http://www.amazon.com/Having-Heart-Martha-World-Edition/dp/B002PJ4LHC that Luke 10:27 says He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Weaver says “God wants us to love him. Really love him. And he wants us to love each other. Really love each other. That’s how we can know we belong to him–if we have love for one another”
For me personally I think how can we love our neighbor if we can’t love our family! Do you have a strained relationship with a family member? If you do set yourself free by:
1. Writing a letter to the family member to begin making amends
2. Being the better person at your next family visit. This will help the other person’s heart to begin to soften.
3. Let the past be the past and concentrate on the now! Life is so short! Don’t waste a minute being angry and holding grudges.
If you don’t have a strained relationship with your family remember to:
1. Love unconditionally (ESPECIALLY with your teenagers:)
2. Hug often
3. Be a good listener
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling–1 Peter 4:9
Apple Crumb Coffee Cakes
These are SO delicious! So much so we are making them for the second time in a week;) We followed the recipe exactly except made mini muffins and didn’t use muffin liners, just sprayed pans with cooking spray. They make 36 mini muffins.
