I love being part of a group of ladies that broadens their faith, shares deep pains, and laughs together! I have mentioned my Thursday Ladies Group many times but I truly value our special time together each week. Yesterday was no exception! We had just finished a VERY controversial book in our opinion called, Crazy Love by Frances Chan, http://www.crazylovebook.com/. The only time in our 4 year history that we almost quit a book! But we didn’t quit and feel stronger as a group because we persevered.
Yesterday we were excited for part 2 of 5 Things God Uses to Grow Your Faith, a video series by Andy Stanley (we LOVE Andy and his messages) http://fivethingsgoduses.com/practical. Andy Stanley through his years of ministry believes these are the five things that God uses to grow our faith, Practical Teaching, Providential Relationships, Private Disciplines, Personal Ministry, and Pivotal Circumstances.
In the Practical Teaching video he explained that when people talk about their faith journey it is usually highlighted by, “I started going to church”, “I was invited to this bible study”, or “they asked me come along to a Christian concert”. Stanley poses the question what if we all had perfect confidence in God and knew that no matter what trials we faced God would be behind the scenes working for good? Stanley explains that it is great to go to church but ticking that box does nothing unless you apply what you learn and act on what you hear, so in other words attendance doesn’t matter, actions matter. Once we apply scripture to our life, family, relationships, finances, and all other aspects of living God will come alive and blow up our faith. It isn’t just a matter of believing what you should do but “to do it”. If you believe in exercise but never exercise what’s the point if you don’t apply your knowledge or if you believe in good nutrition but don’t eat healthy you won’t be at your best health. The same is true for your faith. If you really want to blow up your faith, expose yourself to people who apply their faith and “to do it”. How are you applying (“to doing it”) your faith? Go out of your comfort zone this week and see what God has in store for you!
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.–Matthew 7 24-26
Raw Vanilla Coconut Fig Slices
My daughter first made these and they are yummy. Budget some time because the nuts need to be soaked and the bars need to freeze. The only thing I would change is putting the fig slices on top before the bars are completely frozen so they stick to the cream.
